A company that has an ethics counselor has Five Advantages over the competition.

	(#5) Top management has enough on their plates. An outside corporate ethics project specialist brings time to top management. An outside corporate ethics project specialist brings additional time - an additional person to get things done! The 21st century business management concept of Lean Project Management mandates finishing the project as quickly as possible, with minimum executive time spent on the project.
	(#4) An outside ethics expert will see things you do not see. Most people assume that what they see around them is "normal".  They act and assess on the basis of that "normality".  The outside ethics expert steps back, and with his/her knowledge of a broader normative ethics information base, can see and report your company to you differently than your own officers and staff will internally see and report to you.
	(#3) Outside consultancy provides a signal to middle management that the ethics project is important,  people should pay attention, and the project is a priority. The outside ethics educator increases the attention levels of your employees to the subject to ethics.  The focus and enthusiasm that you want is more easily generated when an outside professional speaker is in front of your officers and employees. It's a matter of giving emphasis by a signal that all officers and employees will read correctly.  It's a matter of generating focus and enthusiasm!
	(#2) Outside consultancy provides a way to have a voice that is not fearful of a corporate superior. The plain fact is that everyone on the rungs of the corporate ladder is fearful of voicing a finding or recommendation that seems like a criticism of someone above him/her on the corporate ladder.  The outside consultant will be viewed as an objective voice, not as someone trying to advance on the corporate ladder.
	(#1- most important.) If a business only has its company executives and employees involved, the company loses the extra knowledge and skills that  outside experts bring to the table.  The outside corporate ethics consultant knows more about changing corporate cultures for the better. He/she has more tools that will do the job the best way for the unique company involved.

Let me summarize in 144 words: 

1. A business ethics expert will move you further, faster, safer.  A seminar or a project by definition is something outside the normal business of the corporation.  On a corporate ethics project, outside ethics consultants provide the concentrated person-power-time your corporate executives do not have.  Experts do things faster and with fewer mistakes. 
    

2. An ethics seminar, or the appointment of an ethics consultant, signals corporate executives and employees at all levels that the corporation views the ethics governance project as important.  That signal generates corporate focus and enthusiasm for the ethics project.
    

3. A business ethics expert provides you with better options and choices. They are experts in identifying the relevant facts, deficiencies, assets, and opportunities.  In doing this they view the relevant facts, deficiencies, assets, and opportunities as they are viewed by the parties outside the corporation as well as by the parties inside the company.
